Thousands of bright spotsA Poem by Sunil SharmaDesolation, urban scene, finding hope in most bleak social condition, indifferent society, urban predators lurking, innocence of a child among wolvesThousands of bright spots The Sodium Vapour street- light, At the corner spot, Shimmering over the water-pool, Breaking into thousands of illuminated dots, Creating a visual pattern unique; And enticing a street kid, Tired and grim, Her attention caught, By the floating bright spots, All moving, shining like beckoning stars, Imprisoned in that dirty rain- pool, Nestling near the edge of The broken street, In a pot-hole wide, On this dark October night, On a deserted mid-night street, With shuttered-down shops, No decent human in sight, Only denizens--- Weeping stray dogs, Few addicts, immobile, And a howling wind for Her sole company, The home is there--- On the cold marble threshold, Outside the closed shop, Where, unknown to the child, Hover unseen, Dripping fangs and cruel talons, Other urban vampires. © 2012 Sunil Sharma |
