Soaring spirit

Soaring spirit

A Poem by Sunil Sharma
"

Conflict, hope, childhood, innocence; merchants of death and hatred; triumph of life in killing fields

"

Soaring spirit

An armless kid

Playing soccer,

His tiny head,

His arms

That lift the

Ball and his

Indomitable spirit,

That finds little delights

In life’s ironies.

The conflict

Claimed his young arms

But simply

Failed to kill

His unconquerable spirit

That triumphs

Over the crippling disability---

A strong message

To the global merchants of death

That kill innocents

In Afghanistan,

Somalia,

India,

Iran,

Or

Pakistan,

These survivors

Of the killing fields,

Continue to smile,

Sweetly at the hate-filled

Programmed mercenaries.

Hope spring up in most unlikely places and giving meaning to life of a disabled kid---casuality of merchants of death. An Ode to this spirit.
