Mirror Mirror (Title by Kenya)

Mirror Mirror (Title by Kenya)

A Poem by Sumo

Mirror mirror, why won’t you show me what I think I’ll see
Instead you lie to me

I pass you by, avoiding even a glance
Unwilling to take that chance

Revealing the truth I attempt to hide
Bringing to surface those feelings once deep inside

They say it’s better to keep your mouth shut
Than to validate what we already know
Just as in the mirror that isn’t afraid to show

Exposing all my flaws for all to see
All those things that don’t really make me

I’m more than a collection of imperfections
More than what I see in my own reflections

I have depth and value hidden beneath the surface
I’ve given freely to those who haven’t earned this

I hope one day to see
It wasn’t the mirror that lied to me...
