You Don’t Know Me

You Don’t Know Me

A Poem by Sumo

All you see of me is what I show
The real me you’ll never know

I see, you have no interest in finding out
Yet you pretend to know what I’m about

Spewing words that paint me wrong
So I just string you along

I hide in plain sight for a reason
Witnessing hypocritical treason

Your perception shadows my reality
Warping your version of my personality

You wanna know me, put forth effort
If not, watch these ties be severed

You won’t even give me empty words
Tell me why, I should care about what’s heard

You left me to struggle all alone
When I needed you in my home

Family, family is supposed to be our strength not our hinderance
The world isn’t where we should seek deliverance

Believe your lies and leave my truth to myself
People make it hard to have faith in anyone else

I stand in front of you so you can see
But you don’t know me
