How Could You

How Could You

A Poem by Sumo

It is what it is
You get what you give
When thrown away, how can you forgive

How can you be so cold to one you once loved
Who used to be the only one you thought of
You that stole the breath from my lung

At what point did everything fall apart
What made you willing to break my heart
And the promises you made from the start

How could you let those feelings you had stray
Now silence is all I hear, when you used to have so much to say
Why couldn't you tell me, things weren't ok

You were always my world
My one and only girl
Me the oyster and you the pearl

Sad It's no longer you and I you see
Forever in my heart is where you'll always be
My one true love, the one for me

My soul will never be the same
My once wild life now tame
Etched in my soul, forever your name

I'll cherish the time we spent
And all things that you meant
All the things we used to represent

I'll never forgive myself for your loss I always tried to make you happy no matter the cost
My once burning heart now turned to frost

Time will pass, I believe a day will come
When you will wish things could be undone
The pain you caused, is now where my strength comes from
