![]() I Found A NapoleonA Poem by Sujash I. Purna![]() After reading George Orwell's Animal Farm and 1984, I couldn't stop myself from writing this.![]() Rehearsals have tested him with patience. Before a mirror, on a haystack He dreamt of freedom; He dreamt to be free Perhaps with stratagem Paying no heed to ignominy I saw him yesterday He was sniffing in the afternoon On footprints, in the mud, he was mired. Shot dead is a good choice But you can scream atop your voice; Stifling desire, letting out grief, So did he; with a horde of wolfhounds, In nights he raided, in days conspired He was a Napoleon of an Animal Farm. Pigs of the country, pigs of the world, Egalitarian, rhetoric, evangelic Napoleon lofted his nostrils Peers were his comrades, peers he ruled with glee From grassroots to edifices, proles to prime ministers All are equal but some are more equal than others. No confusion, no contempt, Pigs you are ruled by Pigs of the world. And yesterday I saw just One while I walked down the streets. Yes, I found him in the newspapers people were reading I swallowed the truth that pigs were ruling Gods on haystack, Gods on the podium Gods with omnipotence, Gods with money Don’t tell your neighbours, that it was me I acquiesce… We were, are and will be happy With pigs ruling the world All are equal but now some are more equal than others… © 2011 Sujash I.
