From war to loveA Poem by Violet O'Brien
Light escaped from the irises in your eyes My whole fate reflected in them The sum of the parts we’ve collected From lifetimes of pain left over Old souls falling in love all over again Because we were made for each other I have made my way to you again Here in this place Where we are safe Comfortable drifting in the cosmos Among the stars and planets Drifting through time and space I hold on to you With every muscle I have Amazed at all we have created And when you look into my eyes I can see our life Played out in an instant I am with you content Older than I ever thought I would grow to With grandchildren around us Happy and playing The creators of a family Happy and whole Instead of the broken ones that we came from We have created a life And a love Stronger than any storm Or any ill-will And at the end of the day I know you will be there for me Just like I am there for you Waiting and free Because we are warriors But we have learned to love Even through the pain And all of the torture we have survived I am happy to call you mine And glad for the child I carried for so long The most perfect gift you ever gave me Was your company You made me softer somehow With one simple night I became a mother In one instant And even though my life has been hard I look into the tiny face we made And I feel the core of me still I see our son And I am finally at peace Content and in love With life instead of war © 2008 Violet O'Brien |
