If you knew what I knew would you still let me love you?

If you knew what I knew would you still let me love you?

A Poem by Violet O'Brien

you say you love me
but do you see me
if i show you my scars
do you understand their meaning
you whisper sweet nothings in my ear
as i lay soft and sleeping
but would you hate me for what i'm dreaming
that i betray you nightly
with the passion of a thousand gods
just for one taste of her
you are the only man i've ever trusted
and the only one i'd sleep with
but if i shed my skin
and bear a different name
would you still walk beside me
if you saw the agility
learned from years of hunting prey
if you learned of my dark pasts
would you still light the candles on the pathway
if I told you all that there is
if i told you the secrets i hide from myself
would you still let me sleep beside you
would you still hold my heart in your hands with pride
if i showed you how many times i've cried
for the lost loves of beautiful womyn
and the only man in my heart before you
was a man that protected me
and kept me safe from harm
if you knew what i know
would you still let me love you?
