Star or Shutter

Star or Shutter

A Poem by Violet O'Brien

my life ended the day eye let ewe in

my heart became a battle ground

my every whisper a battle cry

eye didn't know eye'd have to fight for this

2 be able to hold on to every kiss

looking back eye may have chosen quickly

but everything is quick on a human timeline

my heart has chosen

the heart that will counter it

on the scale of the accused

when we reach the deciding table

and if eye outweight ewe

than eye was right in the first place

and if ewe outweight me

eye'll admit it with grace

but eye'd hope we are even

since eye'm willing to take so many scars for you

the inflicted wounds of family

and the marks on my body forever from children

eye chose this for myself

and eye will die this way

knowing eye am faithful though faithless

and scared of the outcome

we may not last

like a shooting star someone tries to capture in a picture

only to realize the cap was on

or we may last an eternity

watching the stars twinkle and fade

slowing burning out

though we never meet the grave

so tell me

are you my star

or the shutter that clicks and sees nothing
