now that we're not together

it's said that nothing gold can stay,
i guess you proved that to me.
it's better this way,
this i've finally come to see.
i honestly did love you,
despite your lies and faults.
no matter what i tried to do,
you still put our relationship to a halt.
but now im happier than i've been in awhile,
though you plunged a knife in my back,
you took away my smile,
but finally i'm starting to forget what i lack.
