Brother

Brother

A Poem by Amanda
"

Written for my friend Lexi

"
“Brother!” she calls, lost in the wood.
There is nothing but an echo,
Of memories past that hold nothing good,
He hasn’t left her, no,
Just forgotten again,
Least that’s what she says.
Does she know it’s pretend?

The girl needs her brother,
To protect her from harm,
But he’s a fighter, not a lover,
Any chatter sends an alarm.
He’s never lent her a hand,
But she still loves him,
Though from his heart she’s banned.

She’ll keep on hoping,
That one day he’ll talk.
‘Till then I’ll her help her coping,
And on that day I’ll balk.

“Christopher,” she whispers,
Reaching out to find,
Nothing but trees and burs,
For now he remains unkind.

Author's Note

Amanda
Lexi, one of my very best friends, has spoken an average of seventy words (might be an overestimate) to Chris a year. They live in the same house. He's been talking to her lately, and she really needs him. I hope they get to a point better than where they are now.

This is amazing! I love the personification of the brother with the last stanza. The rhythm make it smooth to read and drew me deeper into the meaning of the poem. Keep up the great work!!!
