A Deserted LandA Poem by Sudipta DashThe poem tells the story of a journey - the journey of Life. It gives an insight of the harsh reality of the selfish world we live in.A Deserted Land You start from the tree having thousand branches, Where
caged birds hanging for their chances. You
start from there, you just start to walk, There’s
no one around for you to talk. If you
reach there by the morning hours, When
Destiny rings the bells; You
will see there, white fake flowers, And
appreciate their sweet smells. If you
walk all day, you will reach the town, There
are people like you, fighting for the crown. You
will see the church and sing the song Praying
God to make you strong. The
river is black, and the clouds are grey, It can
be worse than catastrophe; Everybody
wants to buy the prey, They
all have their own philosophy. Everybody
says that the war is over, It’s
time for peace, so don’t get sober. But you
will see the guns being refilled, And if
you ask, you will be killed. You
will live in fear, you will live in fright, The
darkness will engulf your head; Bullets
and bombs will peace the night, The
fire will scare you out of bed. Then
you will run the fastest you can, Run to
the place where it all began. You
will see that it’s all a game, The war
is over, but it’s still the same. There
is no God, empty is the church, It’s
been long since they stopped His search; The
town is there, but the crown is fake; But
people are blind, they will not forsake. You
will understand that the bells lied, Fake
flowers are red, and they just died. You
will find that tree in a deserted land, There
is no green, but only the sand. The
caged birds there you will see, Waiting
for you to set one free; You’ll
wish for your death, but you cannot die, Will
you set one free, and let it cry? © 2018 Sudipta DashAuthor's Note
