Pause & Play

Pause & Play

A Poem by Subin V K

On such summer nights when the heat got to be too much,

When thoughts fell around shattered,

When there were only refused spaces and neglected corners,

When there were less food, books and cigarettes,

He craved for somebody to listen to him,

People he assumed home, changed,

When there were too much noises,

When there were lots of questions

On such nights,

He took a deep breath and looked around his own room

The unfolded clothes, the unopened food packets, the laptop,

The unread book of his favorite author beside bed,

The only pillow that knows the wetness of his tears,

The empty water bottle on the table,

Everything remained the same as he left them..

Silence surrounded him

There was only sound of running fan

Summer, monsoon or winter. The fan kept running

And things in the room were as he left them

They remained the same

They remained unchanged

The fan kept running

Things remained the same

Life moved on

Dear Subin,

This is such a Poignant Poem.
First of all you have created an image before the reader.
You take the reader to the room, make him feel the things around him.
You touch the loneliness of a youth who is conscious & aware of his existence.
It is not just about a boy who is away from his home for some work & has stayed that way for ages.
But, you have addressed the theme of alienation.
These lines are so powerful

"They remained the same

They remained unchanged

The fan kept running

Things remained the same"

conveying a very strong message that Life has "Moved on".
