Vanity

Vanity

A Poem by Cory Barrett
"

.

"
I arrived in time, today
to see the firefighters
rake the rest of my
former neighbors leaves
fall had come calling
the pile was too high
defibrillation was in vain

I find it odd that through daily life we often times never think of our neighbors until we see them or something bad happens. This has a strong ending that made me stop in my tracks.

oh wow, this feels sad and a little cryptic.
vanity weaves its way in, again
and I think sometimes we forget what's important in life for the sale of vanity
