Holding...

Holding...

A Poem by J.Cordova

a million noises heard
listened to
on a cold night
the mind can’t
won’t
sit still
thoughts zooming by

freeways and busy streets
my neurons
contemplating
attempting to grasp
in the mad dash of life

sonic waves attacking
my ears
from outside
sometimes
they emanate from within
rhythms long heard
still echo
with each step
step
step
step

in pace
with the heartbeat of time
with millions of others
none heard
barely seen
all searching
seeking
a goal

a drink
a bed
a meal
a f**k
a fix
a companion

substance
and
subsistence
calm the daily yearning
of a lost soul
trying to escape
from this slab of meat
