My Battle of JerichoA Poem by Emma W.The water seeps In between my toes as I Walk in the rain, arms enveloping My dear umbrella-sharing friend, and She embraces me right back. We have discarded our Useless suede flats, In favor of bare feet on wet concrete, Flooded sidewalks, Muddy grass. We revel in this storybook moment. The rain erodes my battlements, Stone after stone. My fortress collapses, and My heart opens. I forget about how I was Caught off-guard by this Forecasted downpour. I no longer care that all I am wearing is A thin, white shirt, And equally sheer black leggings. It is me, And my Amazonian sister, In the rain. The rain rushes in, Filling my heart with The shared umbrella My bare feet The “I’m sorry”s I exchanged with another fellow Scythian
ally, The promise of a dry home and Indian food At the end of this long day. My soul hovers in the black box theatre, where That morning, I stood in front of 22 equals and Became. © 2013 Emma W. |
