I don't want to set the world on fire.

I don't want to set the world on fire.

A Poem by Jethro del Cielo
"

Selfdescriptory thing.

"

I don't want to set the world on fire.

Listen to me closely,
to words softly spoken
under autumn sky

I never wanted anything
I always wanted everything
but there's too much to reach out for
so I end up with thin air,
empty smiles,
crying eyes,
wicked lies,
unloved and unwise
because I tried not to see the dark
but in my efforts also missed the light

And everything I say or do
is only meant for me and you
right now right here
tomorrow comes whether I want it or not
but I try to forget

Come with me I say,
to the promised land
just take my hand
I'll show you the way
to the neverending day
it's just that I took a wrong turn
and now I'll never learn

That to take responsibility
is to accept the possibility
of me failing the ones I care for
I can try to tell you that I feel secure
but you know as well as I do now
that I can never be sure
because I made too many mistakes,
wasted too many chances
under silver sky dances
never to come back,
the warmth of a day well spent
is what I lack

Because I always make a mess
and too proud to ever confess
how much it hurts to have people doubt your word,
I keep on living my life through stories
I have heard

There is no visible end
just a vague glimmer of hope
at the end of the road

I just gotta get going,
I just gotta go.
