CHAPTER 1A Chapter by EmilyIt was November when she thought it was time for him to know the truth. He took her breath away every time she looked at him. She always thought he never saw her in the school hallways, like she was invisible. She saw him coming down the hallway and she took a big, long breath. Then she walked up to Kevin and just stared at him. “Uh, hi? Can I help you?” Kevin said confused.
Emily just starred at his beautiful brown eyes. Kevin just looked at her like she was crazy and said, “Well ok, bye.” And he just walked right around her, leaving her all by herself in the middle of the hallway.
She felt like an idiot. She thought, ‘he probably thinks I’m crazy and doesn’t want to see or even talk to me ever again.’ So she went through the rest of the school week, feeling like she wasn’t alive. All her friends never understood what was going on with her, but when they asked her; all she said was, “nothing”, “it doesn’t matter”, or even “let’s not talk about me.”
The next week she was at her locker and out of nowhere, Kevin showed up. He was still looking at her confused. But at the same time he was studying how she looked. So he said, “Last week, when you came up to me; what was that?”
So she took a big, long breath and said, “I was just going to tell you, that I like you, but I got distracted.”
She didn’t realize what she just said until he said, “You like me? Wow I would’ve never thought someone like you would ever like me. Someone so—” he hesitated, “so beautiful.”
“You think I’M beautiful?” She said shockingly.
“Why wouldn’t I?” He looked at her long, blonde hair, and her big green eyes. “Every guy in this school has a crush on you. I just don’t think you realize it. I always thought that you were so caught up in school and getting good grades that you never had time for boys” he said.
Her whole dream was coming true. The boy that she had a crush on for 4 years noticed her and he thinks that she’s beautiful. Now the only question remains. “Do you like me?”
He didn’t even think that question would come along. And when he was about to answer her question, the school bell rang to go to class. “Uh, I got to go, sorry, Bye”
“Me too. I’ll talk to you later.” She said, sadly.
And they both ran off to their next class.
The next month, she started to see something different going on in him. First of all, she didn’t see much of him, like she used to. And second of all, when she did see him, all he did was keep staring at the ground while he walked to class. It was like he was giving her the silent treatment or something like that. Even though they were never together, it was as if he didn’t want to be with her, ever.
One day she saw him coming down the hallway and she started to walk toward him. And he saw her coming toward him. So she stopped in front of him and she said, “Hi.” But he didn’t answer her back; all he did was walk around her like she was invisible.
She just stood there. Her friend, Melissa, saw the whole thing. So Melissa walked up to Emily and said, “What was that about?”
“Nothing, just nothing.”
“Well that didn’t look like nothing. Come on Emily. What’s going on?”
“Ok…” So she told her friend what happened and how he was avoiding her. And what had happened right now. And as they walked toward their last class they had together, Melissa said, “Wow Emily, how come you never told us you had a crush on him? We would’ve helped you out. You know that.”
“I know. I’m sorry; I just thought maybe that if I told you, you might start laughing at me because I haven’t even tried to get together with him.” Emily said.
“Emily, do we ever laugh at you?” Melissa thought about that and said, “Ok maybe we do laugh at you but it’s fun.”
Emily laughed. “I don’t know why I thought that. I’m so stupid.”
Melissa just laughed. And while they were in class Melissa saw Kevin in the class and then looked at Emily. Then she looked back at Kevin, but this time Kevin saw and he mouthed the word, “What?” Melissa just mouthed back, “Nothing.” Then she just looked at the teacher, and just thought what she could do about Emily. As the school bell rang, she snapped out of her train of though. Emily told her goodbye so she could go home. And Melissa walked out of the room and she got like two steps out of the classroom, and all of the sudden Kevin took her arm and said, “I need help.”
Melissa just looked at him, like he was crazy to ask her for help.
Kevin sighed, let go of her arm, and said, “I need help with Emily.”
“Oh, well why didn’t you just say that. What do you need help with?”
“Well I don’t know if she told you but—”
“Yes, she told me. Why are you avoiding her? She didn’t do anything to you.” She said, harshly.
Kevin looked down at the floor and said, “Well because I’m scared she might ask that question to me again. Because I don’t know if I like her or not.”
“Well that’s your fault.”
“I know! Well can you help me?”
“How in the world can I help you? This is a problem between you and Emily.”
Melissa then just walked away. Leaving Kevin all by himself in the middle of the hallway. Just like he did with Emily. This made him think that maybe he needed to call Emily to make things right. So he yelled at Melissa’s direction and started running toward Melissa.
“Hey, let me have Emily’s number, please. I need to call her to get things straight. Please.” So Melissa gave him her number.
As Kevin walked home from school, he got urges to text her, but he knew that he needed to call her to make things right between them. However, on a regular basis he would text someone just to make the time fly. So he pulled up her number on his cell phone and started to text her hey I’m walking home, and I just decided to text you. So he sent it. He walked across the street and then his phone went off. He flipped it open and it was Emily and the text said, uh hi, who is this? He laughed and thought if he should tell her who it is, or make her guess, so he hit reply and put his thumbs over the keyboard and just started texting, I can’t believe you don’t know who this is…I go to your school. And he pushed sent. He walked a couple of blocks and then his phone went off, he flipped it open and read what she sent, that’s nice, that narrows it down to I don’t know maybe more than 1,000 people. Seriously who is this? He laughed again. He thought of the easiest thing to say to make her figure out that it was him. He hit reply and the texting began, I’ve been ignoring you for the past month for no real reason. In addition, he pushed send. He didn’t get a text until he got home, he went to his room and then his phone went off. He opened it and he said, Kevin? How in the world did you get my number? This time he didn’t laugh, he just sighed and just decided to tell her how and why. Yea, this is Kevin. And Melissa gave it to me. I needed your number so I can call you. But, I got bored walking home and just decided to have fun and text you. Again, he pushed the send button. He started to get some chips in the kitchen when his phone went off, but he let it go off until he got the chips and until he was back to his room. He opened his phone and it said, Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it, why have you been ignoring me Kevin, I don’t think I did anything to you, did I? He exhaled long and hard and thought about it. He decided to not text her but calling her would be better. So he pulled up her number again and just pushed the call button on his phone. The phone rang 3 times and then he heard her voice.
“Hello?”
He smiled. “Emily? It’s Kevin.”
“Yea, I know, I put your number in my phone. So what happen to you, I mean did I do anything to you that made you mad, or upset?” Emily said upset.
“Of course you would never make me mad or upset. Ok here’s the thing…I thought if I still hung out with you then you might—might ask that question again.”
“What question? Oh the ‘if you like me’ question. Ok…well what were you going to say when I asked that question the first time, because I know you were going to answer?”
“I was going to say ‘I guess’” he said with a sigh.
There was a long silence before she said something after that. He wondered if she hung up or something. At that moment he heard a sigh, she had exhaled and said, “I’m sorry but I got to go, I need to do my homework before my mom gets home, and I have a ton of homework. So I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”
“Alright talk to you later. Bye.” As he shut his phone, He felt something that he really shouldn’t. He felt bad. He should’ve never told her that. But now she might not be doing her homework, she could be crying on her bed. But he knew that he couldn’t do anything for her, he just pretty much broke her heart. And all he could do was finish his homework before his parents got home.
He was thinking very hard about that conversation and he thought, ‘I shouldn’t be sad; it’s not my fault that I don’t like her that much. I just hope she’s okay; I only like her as a friend. Hope she doesn’t do anything bad…She could be hurting as far as I know. I will never know what’s going on in her head.’
