Old SolesA Poem by The Blood PoetOld shoes, old schools My soul felt through my walking feet The earth speaks to me Her calling me I take my shoes off and I walk Walk on ground walked by thousand, millions Millions have left there imprints on the ground I walk on The hero’s journey always begins with a long walk. Energy pushes through the soles of my feet. My true home atop dusty feet. It goes up my bare legs Past my hips and through the germinating ground To the seat at my chest The seat of my soul This is my small affirmation to life to leave deep footprints of my own to be a legacy in the air I exhale to breathe the air that contains the cells of all that is was and will be. I have made this walk before I breathe the same air as Albert Einstein, Maya Angelo and Motown I breathe Ella Fitzgerald and Michael Angelo, Mozart and Beethoven, I breathe the Mata Hari and the Gypsy King, Tutankhamen and Nefertiti I breathe Buddha and Ghandi, and Mohammad and Christ And I walk with Lord Shiva at my side. Down the winding streets of my chosen cities Past old cars and cemeteries Past busses and restaurants Past two old ladies, past trees and bicycles Past dogs and scurrying squirrels and cats Past sign posts and bus stops And I breathe the air shared by Billy Holiday and Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix and Led Zeplin I breathe Joseph Campbell and Stephen Hawking Stephen King and Sarah Vaughn I walk
I walk past troubled moods and troubled skies Troubled thoughts I walk to untangle and multiply Ideas and structures Pathways in corners of my mind
I walk into the wild spaces. dark, rich, forested areas and Explore pathways I haven’t travelled before. And I breathe in the medicine man and ancestors Witch doctors, gargoyles and Goblins I breathe mythic gods of creation I breath my family and friends, And I walk with La Calavera (Godmother Death) at my side
I walk past school grounds and junk yards, Beggars and rich men Past oceans and old habits Past old thought patterns and old worn out strategies I renew I reinvent I begin again
I breathe air shared by shamans and priests Villains and heroes I breathe songs never sung And thoughts never realized I breathe peace of mind and the Dali Lama Tina Turner and Jim Henson, Dr. Suess and Carl Jung Clarissa Pinkola Estes and Freda Khalo I breathe Dizzy Gillespie, Nina Simon and David Suzuki I breathe Dr. Martin Luther King, Dr. Andrew Weil, Leonardo Da Vinci Malcom X and Krishnamurti, Marilyn Monroe and Margret Atwood, Marion Woodman and Jean-Michael Basquiat and I breath and I walk With old soles at my side.
