Chapter 1A Chapter by Storm SuzukiI lean back in my orange leather chair. Pop music played quietly from my speakers. The house was quiet. Everyone was at work. Technically, so was I. I'm a YouTuber. A wannabe YouTuber. I did anything I could do. Game playthroughs. Guides on how to get Trophies. Mostly animation though. I taught myself how to animate when I got here. I was still pretty bad at it but you know what they say, practice makes perfect. My YouTube wasn't big. Only three thousand subscribers. Many people have way more than what I have. Mostly because they're not me. I was still not confident. I was still afraid of even recording my voice. I don't know how people can record their faces. I gradually got up from my chair. I jab a finger against the Spacebar. It stops the music barely pumping out of my speakers. I take small strides across my long bedroom. My clothed feet skim over the top of my fluffy black carpet. My hand skim across my sunny lemon wall. My gloved fingers stop at something. A sword. The Sword of Sparda from Devil May Cry. I look up at the rest of the wall. Weapons upon weapons were tacked onto the wall. Our household were big on cosplaying. Any party they throw was always a costume party. Maybe because I would come out of my room. I wasn't a big party person. No one talks to me. I usually hide in my room. I unhurriedly leave the weapon wall. I saunter to the other side of my room. Long, white lace curtains hung over the towering clear windows. My fingers pluck off the gloves. The gloves fall onto my gray comforter. My scarred hand lightly pushes away the curtains. The amazing view appears in my eyes. Sky rise buildings glint from the sun. The few trees that were planted wave at me from the wind. A small field was behind the house. One lone and giant Jacaranda tree grew on top of the hill. Below my window, held our glimmering swimming pool. A door slams from downstairs. It cuts me from enjoying the view. No one was supposed to be home by this time. I gracefully run to my smooth white door. I slow my run to a fast walk. The carpet change from black and fluffy to navy blue and flat. I lean over the white vine railing. "Levi, what are you doing home so early?" I ask. My voice echo's through the empty house. Levi was one of my roommates. A kind and ambitious twenty-four year old that can be quarrelsome when she gets angry. Her long strawberry blonde with fuzzy long bangs that hung just above her eyebrows, her piercing grass green eyes, and hourglass figure was the leader of our house. Also, she was a kickass interior designer. Designed our house and thousands of others. She sighs as she takes off the fake glasses she wears when on her job. She flashes a toothless smile up towards me. "I took a half day off. I wanted to get ready for the masquerade tonight." I forgot about the masquerade. L.A.'s first ever masquerade ball. Something that everyone is excited for. I feel like it's just another party but this one I can't hide from. "Will the others be coming home too?" I ask another question. Levi's shoulders move. "Don't know. Did you remember the masquerade?" Levi shoots back at me. "U-Uh..." I stutter. Levi shakes her head. "So, that means no dress?" "No dress." I repeat for my answer. Levi jangles her car keys. "Let's go. I got time to spare." © 2016 Storm Suzuki |
