Two Sides To One Coin

Two Sides To One Coin

A Poem by Crystal Heart

Taken from our natural element,

Destined to be gold, nickel, silver, or copper,

With labels, faces, engravings and beliefs imprinted for all to see,

To distinguish what is the country of origin,

Predetermining which has more value over others.

Some are destined to be a head,

A head of state, a head of the country,

The face for the people,

One that anyone will recognize,

But not beyond that profile.

Some are destined to be a tail,

The rear end of society.

Struggling to flip their luck around.

To become the face of chance,

To defy all odds,

To defy fate,

To defy the coin-flipping hand of God.

But lacking the physical, standard attributes of a head.

Only the tails can be unique.

The coin may be shiny and new, oh heads,

But overtime, it is left to fade,

To slowly rust and corrode,

Forgotten in the jeans of the white-collared banker,

Until your face is no longer recognizable,

Until the coin and worth is no longer distinguishable,

And at that moment, you are no different from the tails you tried to divide from,

Returning to that same natural element,

While others are being minted,

Ready to take your place.

In God we trust.

Land of the free.

Let freedom ring.
