Weight of Water

Weight of Water

A Poem by Steven Daveluy

Clean slate, fresh start, and all of that
The mind of a child, just a drop in the hat

The teacher begins teaching, life lessons are learned
The yearling is eager, but no merits are earned

Built upon stages, the newest on top
The last layer tainted, by only a drop

A bead of morality, adds to the cost
Just a follower led, by one that is lost

It’s in the minutia, that just doesn’t stop
Filling the bucket, by imperceptible drop

Once the vessel is full, it starts to spring leaks
Water is heavy and points lowest it seeks
