Love (My Special Problem)

Love (My Special Problem)

A Poem by Steven Pottle

We have hearts that beat in perfect tune
Blood that pumps rush in triple speed
Eyes that vibrate with identical electricity
Knees that press against each other under the table
Smiles that flash undetected by everyone else in the room…

But lust has to burn
Love has to hurt
You have to be left unsure of your feelings, but certain of insanity-
For this to be worth it
Your mind has to f**k with you
Plans have to fail regularly
Love has to make you cry daily and question every unreasonable conclusion-
To know that it is completely worth it

We share the same hair, our very own unfashionable style
The imagined dotted lines from my pupils to yours
My grey matter makes every minute colourful
You say that you like my laughter creases…in vain, I try not to show them too often

Remember lust will make you crawl
Love will make your knees bleed
The grief of what happens next has to give you a million stomach ulcers-
You now know that you are preparing
Over thinking has to finish you
“What is happening to me?”
You have to be standing at the edge with toes looking over into the unknown-
To know that you are prepared here

And for us to feel strong and ten foot tall
We have to know the taste of the road
Burning, hurting, crawling and bleeding-
Hearts pump, eyes flash, sharing pupils and laughter a minute
Love is a special problem that I think is worth feeling every second.

Love...the chemical that unleashes upon us so many insecurities, and hurts, and moments of being awake and not being able to sleep lest we miss a minute of who we are in love with.

And yes, there is a very fine line between lust/love/insanity. Makes me wonder...
