The Night Terrors

The Night Terrors

A Poem by Steven Pottle

Spiders scare me to death
Silent, unexpected with bones that show
Feet fast up on the sofa when they suddenly reveal themselves
I keep well away during the day
But they know me intimately while I’m sleeping
Quick, brave and exploring in the early hours of the morning
An expedition over warm cotton mountains
No rest until they have found the hidden treasures lost in dangerous caves…
That’ll be your open deep dreaming mouth
The nightmares appear when your teeth are eight times tickled
Lights on, wake up screaming!
