Bomber Jackets

Bomber Jackets

A Poem by Steven Pottle

Do you remember us having our picture taken on Dad’s car bonnet?
Do you remember me laughing so much that I was sick and you were sent to bed early?
Do you remember me singing “Holiday” out of tune to you and your friends?
Do you remember me crying when I found them kissing?
Do you remember me screaming when you kept knocking on my bedroom door?
Do you remember who your real father is?
He’s a complete lunatic
Into football violence
Madness
And bomber jackets.

Where did this one come from?! It's sharp. Yes, the bomber jacked brings so much back...the cherry reds etc. Horrible. Such a strong image from Britain in -- was it -- the 70s? Thank god we've changed. I know metrosexuals get a bad press sometimes, but I think I'd prefer them to the thugs of the Clockwork Orange era. Ach, your poem stirs images of how things were. How innocent we all were and how viscious some were also. Then it all changed somehow. Thank god there is no more football violence. Sadly there is still plenty of violence around. How come you writing like this though?
