A Safe Road

A Safe Road

A Poem by Steven Pottle

We bridge the gap between everyday and somewhere else
Amid the belly laughter from a useless sense of humour
And the cursed drink that was more alcohol than mixer
Life is all about breaking the falls with something soft and warm
So when everyone here tries to discuss the properties of true feelings
All I can do is to sit back and smile to myself
As I know that love is where the music leads me
The path that I keep to will always pilot me to you
And the stepping stones join my aching bones
Rolling over each other and clack together to form a road
This road takes us to healthier places
It is a gift from the beginning of time
Watching over our latest adventure…
Our future selves bow in respect that we have finally found
Understanding that we are walking safe now.
