Still Born

Still Born

A Poem by Steven Pottle

Does the daylight come and find you
And does that signify the beginning of a life?

Is the sunshine already there
Do you move or wait for something to arrive?

So if light never finds me
Am I finished before I’ve even started?

Or if the sun never shines on me
Am I the new addition or am I the dearly departed?

I couldn't help but think of this place as I read this. We all sort of turn up, all entusiastic, 'Hi, I'm new!' Silence. Then the doubts start. Lines 5 & 6 seem to suggest that. But line three seems key ... as yes, the sunshine is within us. And the sad truth is that those with lots of inner sunshine naturally attract more of the external kind. And those with less are left wondering. But even those of less natural candle power can still often make more of what they have. Isn't that the key?
