Chapter 26: The coaches Curse

Chapter 26: The coaches Curse

A Chapter by Steven Ingels

Roscoe sat in the principals office waiting for the principal to come in. luckily he wasn't staring at weird figurines like other staff had around the office. The door opened and Principal Bright sighed as he walked to his chair. He interlocked his fingers on the desk looking at roscoe, "Mr. Rizzo I’m glad you’re here we need to talk about a few things?" Roscoe drowned his eyebrows leaning forward, "Like what?" Bright cleared his throat, "Well for Instance your sister skipping class and…” roscoe threw his head back tired of the staff talking about his sister and telling him about it, “Sir my sister does whatever she wants. I can’t do anything about and neither can my parents.” Bright nodded his head, “Well sorry to hear that”leaning back in his chair, “So what I can do for you? Roscoe sighed thinking for a moment to see why he was here, “What are you doing about the gangs in this school?”

Bright widened his eyes, “Whoa didn’t expect that kind of question um” Bright gave a half smile, “well we haven’t done anything about to be honest” Roscoe now noticed something behind Mr. Bright and it wasn’t good, “Why not” Roscoe asked aren’t you worried that there brining in drugs, alcohol and prostituting girls” okay maybe not prostates, but it could happen.” Bright nodded his head, “I see your concern the reason why we can’t do anything about it because of the 407 law” Roscoe drowned his eyebrows wondering what kind of law this was, “What’s the 407 law.” Mr. Bright cleared his throat, “The 407 law is a law that the red Star community came up with. If he or she doesn’t show any of their colors we can’t do anything about what he or she is doing however if they do we can charge them in what crime they have committed”  Roscoe knew Bright was making this whole 407 law made up, “so it’s kind of like a lose, lose situation .” Roscoe quickly got up, “cool Thanks Mr. Bright.” Mr. Bright smirked, “hey before can you take out this Dreck” The word dreck meant worthless trash: junk. That was a sign that Mr. Bright was a part of the gang community. Roscoe quickly walked out wondering if Mr. Bright was a part of the shooting at the house.

Now that school was over Roscoe walked out of the class walking the opposite direction of everyone else. Bobbi who was walking to her locker noticed Roscoe walking. She ran over to him, “Hey you do know that school is over right?” Yeah” roscoe cleared his throat, “I’m going to try out for the soccer team.” Bobbi smirked, “What, why.” Roscoe shrugged, “Because it’s something to do besides sitting at home.” Bobbi could understand that, “I see mind if I watch.” Roscoe shrugged, “Sure.” Both of them walked down the hall and the only thing Bobbi was thinking of was how Roscoe would perform on the field

Dirksberg shook his head at the pathetic team who couldn’t keep the ball by their feet, “wow it’s like a bad music video” Roscoe walked up with Bobbi. Dirksberg sighed, “I know so what are you doing here?” roscoe smirked, “You asked me to come here to try out.” Dirksberg nodded his head, “Oh yeah didn’t think you would show up” Dirksberg grabbed his whistle and blew waving the team in. Bobbi leaned over to Roscoe, “You sure you want to do this.” Roscoe shrugged, “Yeah what could go wrong.” A lot of things” Bobbi said under her breath.

The team dropped what they were doing and came in wiping off the sweat like they have been doing something, “Listen up this team sucks and if we don’t start winning they will cut the program” pausing for a moment letting them soak in the new news, “I have a solution to this” looking over at Roscoe, “This here is Roscoe. I’ve seen him with the ball today and he’s just like beckham. He is going to be on the team.” What’s so special about him” Yelled a player. Dirksberg smiled at the player, “He has potential Gonzalez. We’re going to have a pickup game you guys versus him. The team started laughing, “Oh you think this is a joke fine then get out there and see what you guys don’t have” Dirksberg blew the whistle again. The team threw their heads back getting into position. Three forwards, four midfielders two fullbacks and one goalie. Dirksberg gave a nod, “alright Roscoe give it your all. Roscoe sighed looking over at Bobbi, wish me luck” Roscoe walked over to the opposite goal. Bobbi stood by Dirksberg both knowing this would be terrible.

The ball was right in front of Roscoe he looked down the field and saw what he was going to do just before he did it. The whistle blew and Roscoe took a deep breath and ran towards the ball.

Dribbling the ball at a slow pace he was coming up to his first three opponents. The first opponent ran up to get the ball away, but Roscoe drag the ball and scissor making his left foot bounce and his went to the right making the opponent fall. The next opponent came up trying to do the same thing, but Roscoe did the same move on him again. Now the third knew what roscoe was going to do. Roscoe smiled coming up to the opponent and did a zig zag kicking the ball forward as he went the opposite direction that the opponent thought he was going.

Now that the forwards were eliminated he faced the four midfielders. All of them were charging him. Now that he was close he swivel hip fake making each player go in the opposite direction that Roscoe was going. Right, left, right, left. All of them fell down not knowing what had happened.

Now that the Midfielders were eliminated the Fullbacks were next. Roscoe quickly skipped cutting the left leg and chopped with his right foot. The last Fullback almost stole it, but it just rolled off his foot. Roscoe flipped them off and kept on going. He looked at the goalie and smiled. He stopped quickly getting down on his hands and lifted both of his feet off the ground with the ball and threw it with his legs. The goalie widened his eyes seeing that they ball was coming to fast so he dove out of the way just before the ball hit the net.

Roscoe got up brushing his hands on his pants and looked at the players who were shocked at what just happened. Bobbi ran up to Roscoe, “holy s**t that was f*****g amazing.” Dirksberg came up looking like he just saw a famous athlete, “Roscoe where did you learn to do that.” Roscoe shrugged, “Taught myself by playing hacky sack, why.” Dirksberg smiled from ear to ear, “because you just earned yourself a spot on this team. Roscoe smiled, “Cool, but isn’t it too late to register me.” Dirksberg sighed, “Dam it is” thinking for a moment, “but I can talk to someone about it. For now be my assistant coach.” Roscoe nodded his head, “Alright sounds good” Dirksberg threw up his hands, “YES! The CURSE IS LIFTED” Shouted Dirksberg. Rodriquez came up to Roscoe, “Just because you made us look bad doesn’t mean we’ll win any games” “Shut up” Rodriquez” flicking him on the forehead, “Roscoe is your best chance at winning” Bobbi threw her arm around Roscoe talking about what he did. Roscoe was pretty proud of himself not making the team look bad, but he could see his future be a soccer player.
