Chapter Twenty: Copy Cat

Chapter Twenty: Copy Cat

A Chapter by Steven Ingels

Roscoe jumped over the fence when his eyes widened seeing two Police Cruisers in the front. It was the red Star police and they had some pretty nice cars for a small town. Roscoe was nervous about them being there. Walking up on the porch he peeked through the window and saw the cops and his dad standing in front of the couch. He knew someone was sitting there, but couldn’t see who it was. Going over to the door and sighed opening it up and walked in when he could see the person on the couch. Karman was on the couch with her head down with his mom right beside her

Leonide and the two officers talked for a bit and Roscoe sat on the stairs waiting for something to happen. Kamran looked at Roscoe shaking her head seeing him smile. The two officers shook Leonide’s hand and turned towards the door. They gave Roscoe a nod as they walked out of the house. The door closed and the tension got stronger, “what the f**k were you thinking? Noreen quickly got up going into the kitchen not wanting to hear any of what Leonide had to say, “you broke into a home to steal a CD player, what else have you been doing.” Karman shrugged, “nothing.” Roscoe smirked raising his hand up, “Uh actually skipping class, smoking weed.” Leonide looked over at Roscoe; “Stay out of this” Leonide looked back at his daughter, “What do you have to say for yourself.” Karman looked up with her puppy eyes, “I’m sorry” saying it in her innocent voice. Roscoe held his breath wanting to say something, but he kept his mouth shut.

Leonide shook his head, “you’re sorry for what stealing or being a copycat like your brother.” Karman licked her lips, “Stealing dad I wasn’t thinking and I was hanging out with the wrong crowd.” Leonide scratched his head looked back at Roscoe seeing everything was switched around, “Karman” pausing for a moment looking back at his daughter, “This innocent act your trying to pull with me isn’t working. Stealing, skipping class, using all leads to one thing.” Karman threw her head back, “but I’m not like Roscoe.” Leonide shook his head, “no you’re not, but you will be if you keep what you’re doing. You’re grounded until further notice.” “What” Karman complained, “That’s not fair, and you didn’t ground Roscoe for what he did.” Leonide sighed, “it’s different, just please go upstairs and… Fine I will” Karman grunted getting up from the couch, “I hate you” Karman quickly walked out of the living room pushing Roscoe aside as stomped up stairs.

“Your grounded too” Leonide said to Roscoe, “What come on” letting his arms dangle from his knees, “I haven’t done anything. I just got invited to a party with some friends don’t do this to me. “Leonide gave a half smile really noticing things have changed, “Fine you can go, but if I get a phone call from the station I will… Yes I know” Roscoe stood up, “Military school. I get it dad.” Leonide looked at his son seeing him in the way he used to be. He had matured fast from being in the gang and it was time for Leonide to see that.
