Black Goat Speaks P.1: The Myth About Men

Black Goat Speaks P.1: The Myth About Men

A Poem by Steve Thompson
"

The black goat is a inner personality that addresses certain issues

"

(As the Black Goat slowly lights his cigg, he speaks)

They say love is blind,
So, I went ahead and learned how to read brail,
I focused so hard on “hope,”
That I begin to lose my perception of love,
And even with these glasses and these binoculars,
I can’t see anything through all this fog,
All these mixed six-signals.

You see, my knees are Rusty from praying,
My jeans are worn out around my knees,
And besides I think that fool is laughing at me,
But,
You know I thank him for gravity,
For keeping me grounded,
So he can keep my head out the stars,
Because every time I think that far ahead about love,
It causes to much friction with my heart,
Causing a fire to start in my soul,’
And my mama always told me not to play with fire.

You gotta understand,
A broken-hearted fool,
Is a fool,
But a men who waste his seconds,
On pretending there something in a girl,
Something worthy of a hour worth of attention,
And there ain’t even anything there,
Than he don’t deserve a minute of sympathy.

I am the Black Goat,
Each of my wrinkles,
Are symbols of experience with women,
Troubled times,
Lies,
Smiles and cries.
And I know,
Everyman,
Keeps this knowledge deep down inside,
So, I am going to clear up some of the myths and lies about men.
I will swear on any sacred text that the truth I will abide.

I liked this too. No, I really liked this. I could hear a wise but rusty southern voice speaking the words. It has many great lines. I particularly enjoyed the second and first stanzas, and the first and fourth :) There are a few grammatical errors but I figured they might be deliberate - and if so maybe a few more little idiosyncrasies could be added to give the Black Goat's voice even more character. (That could just be because I love different dialects). This is very unique and a great write! Thank you for sharing this. NH

Unfinished, but an interesting slant on the age old dichotomy between the sexes - men really don't understand women, and women really don't understand men. Of the two, men are more logical, women more instinctive. Both are emotional, though in different degrees, and as Kipling once wrote: "The female of the species is more deadly than the male." You'd better believe it!

I had to reread these lines quite a few times to let the full image sink in. You did such an interesting job drawing pictures for the reader...I think every mom has told their child not to play with fire at least once, and you were able to draw an inference to that. Sick, sick connections. It's almost unfair...the way you spin words with ease, and rattle off metaphores I can't even fathom. Keep it up, keep it up. I'm snapping.
