The Fly & The Worm

The Fly & The Worm

A Poem by Steve H
"

Just a silly fun one I did in a free half hour :)

"

A fly was flying through the sky and saw something quite odd

A worm sat on a window ledge, screaming up at God!

“I’m always being chased by birds or trodden on with shoes,

I’m going to jump off of this ledge and turn myself to ooze!!”

“Wait, stop” shouted the happy fly, distressed at what he’d heard

“You’re quite the magnificent worm good sir, to jump would be absurd!”

“Pah, you can fly around all day, while I must slide on floors,”

The worm slid closer to the edge and rudely said “UP YOURS!”

The worm fell like a well oiled brick, the fly let out a yell

The worm went smack into the floor, but bounced up fine and well!

His lack of bones and jelly innards protected him from dying

The worm could now be like the fly, with bouts of downwards flying!

The worm and fly are now good friends and hang out every day

The worm still jumps from scary heights and those who watch him pay

So next time you see a small worm, don’t dismiss him as a bug

He might just be that same little fellow, the worlds very first Stunt Slug!

I cannot begin to tell you how glad I am to have found this poem today. It is absolutely brilliant! I love everything about it - the perfect rhyme and meter, great characters, a well developed story, and a funny punchline. Overall, a wonderful piece of work. This type of poem is right up my street and I give it two thumbs up.
