The Dolls Four

The Dolls Four

A Poem by Steve H

Inspired by the brilliant mind of Ethan Boroian.

In a castle alone somewhere deep in the stars
A girl’s lived alone through the aeons.
She’s bored of her storybooks, poems and songs,
Disposed of her felt-tips and crayons.
What Eve wanted was clear and she set out to get them
A set of dolls truly unique!
To be made from real people, shrunk down using magic
To fill her bare dolls house antique.

The first girl she found lived up high on a hill
Surrounded by clouds deepest black
When lightening came flying it always would hit her
And knock her out with a loud ‘crack!’
So Eve took her first girl and using her magic
She turned the young thing into plastic
So that next time it thundered and dolly was nearby
They needn’t do anything drastic!

The second she found in the hottest of deserts
She was being made ill by the heat
No matter how much ice cold water she drank
Her throat felt as dry as her feet!
So Eve whisked her second girl back to the castle
Did not help to hydrate her, instead,
She swapped a giant bowl that was filled up with water
With her second new doll’s pretty head

The third she found sat all alone on a sofa
Always eating she’d gotten so fat
That her legs couldn’t hold her so she was immobile
She just carried on eating like that
So Eve grabbed her third girl and helped her get thinner
And then sealed the dolls mouth tightly shut
So should ever she see just the slightest of portions
It would never end up in her gut.

The last doll she found was a man rather normal
Not special but always content,
He would smile and wave joyfully all through the day
And was always a through and through gent.
So Eve took this last man and seeing his kindness
Presented him wings made of gold
Made him handsome and wealthy with all he could want
And made sure he would never grow old.

So they lived in the castle for weeks rather nicely
Eve wore a huge smile everyday
But she didn’t notice her three dolls of womanhood
Busily plotting away.
For they’d become jealous of the gifts of the male one
And tired of the dolls house antique.
So they planned to escape from the castle completely
The naughty young female doll clique.

So one day they ran for it, scattered and dashing
As Eve chased them round feeling manic
Her male doll was scouting and aiding his captor
To find the 3 dolls in a panic

The first doll was running and almost got caught
So hid by the fireplace round
But the heat she’d forgotten was not good for plastic
She melted and never was found

The second doll ran to the top of the stairs
Her dress damp and ever so tattered
It caught on her ankle, down the stairs she went flying
Her head filled with water was shattered

The third doll was tiring and wanting a breather
She saw Eve behind her so near
But her mouth was shut tight, so unable to scream
Eve trod her flat, leaving a smear

The male doll seeing the chaos and carnage
Knew Eve was not destined for joy
So he opened a window and flew out alone
To leave her to find a new toy.

I love how this is creepy yet oddly cute. I could sense a bit of a playful rhythm to the poem that seems to lull the reader into believing that what the little girl is doing is just fun and games.
And I love the descriptions of the dolls.

Creepy, but incredibly cute. It's a pretty joyful tone to me, as if there wasn't anything wrong with kidnapping little girls and making them your dolls. Good job!
