Prologue

Why does life have to be so complicated?

I mean, all I want is to make it through high school, go to college, get a job, and get married. In that order. But of course, things never work out that way.

He had to come into my life. Everything was fairly normal in my life until that one fateful day in lab. For months after, he just wouldn’t leave me alone. I questioned everything about myself.

What did I really want to do with my life?

Was having a whale as a friend really healthy?

Was I normal….?

A hand began waving in front of my face. “Hey, you good, hon?” I smiled up at my spouse, then over at my children whose heads were peeking out from the doorframe of the bedroom.

“Yeah, just thinking of the past is all. Anyways...how are Alex and Adam?”

We both turned to the two kids in the doorframe. “Oh those squirts. They’re fine, you know them. What about you?” I shrugged. I fully realize that the past is the past, but after everything I went through, how can I not be ashamed?

“Managing.” We smiled at each other. Giving each other a kiss on the cheek.
