Paid maternity leave? That’s science fiction in the USA. According to  a report provided by PL+US: Paid Leave for the United States, 94% of low-income working people don’t have access to this benefit.

Low-income workers don’t have money for nannies. They cannot afford to leave the job. As it turns out, the women who need paid family leave the most are the least likely to get it.

The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 requires one of the lowest levels of unpaid leave among all developed countries: only 12 weeks on an annual basis for mothers who gave birth or adopted a child.

I had a full-time job as an editor in a local magazine when I got pregnant. I knew I wouldn’t get paid leave. When I started exploring, I found that many moms were making money while staying with their babies. Isn’t that the perfect opportunity?

I’ll list five proven ways to make money online while expecting.

1. Blogging

Many women from all around the world are making income from full-time blogging. How much money can you make? It depends. At the beginning, you won’t make money. If you keep working on your blog and you make it successful, you can start earning through few methods:

• Affiliate links

• Selling eBooks and different products

• Promoting ads

• Writing reviews for brands that contact you

If you’re a great writer, the least you can do is start that blog and keep working on it. You can get another job from home and keep this as an alternative. It will start bringing you money, eventually.

2. Tutoring

With this option, you get a chance to use your degree. You’ll have to go through some informal teaching training, which most tutoring services provide.

You’d be surprised how many students from elementary school through college need tutoring. They are willing to pay online tutors, since they get to attend flexible sessions from the comfort of their home.

This was the option I chose. Resume writing services are getting more popular by the day. Employers are paying more attention to the writing skills of the applicants. That’s how they evaluate the overall communication skills before they even invite them for an interview.

5. Photography

If your pregnancy is going well and you can walk around town, you can start making photos and selling them online. Of course, this option works only if you have the needed equipment or you’re willing to invest in it. Needless to say, you also need photography skills.
