The TruthA Poem by StephanieCPoem I wrote as part of a novel I'm working onThe patriot. The protester. The stand-up-and-do-what's-right-er. The lover. The leader. The soldier and fighter and teacher. One person. She's everything at once. And just when you think she can get no better, She chooses you, to be her student. I try and learn, try to be the best, And to make her proud of me. I want to be what she deserves, But she deserves the world. I know I'm not enough for her, Not smart or brave or strong enough. But I do what I can, and do what she asks, And I pray one day I'll be of help. I know I'll never be as good as her, Never be as brave. She speaks for those without a voice, Those broken, lost and scared. She fights for those without strength, And trains the weak to be stronger. She's no angel; She's done her share of wrongs, But those with guns can't be a saint. And at times she may be violent, Because the work is tough, But she's never ignored a cry for help. She's really good under pressure, And sometimes works all night long. But she's always ready, When they need her in the fight. She's who I want to be; Brave and strong and true. She has honour and integrity, And she's proud to be a fighter. One day I'll make her proud of me, No matter what it takes. I know the sacrifice I have to make, But for her I'd do it every day. Nikita, if you're reading this, Know I'm proud of you. And you're strong and beautiful. A saviour of so many, Friend to even more. One day I'll earn my freedom, Just like you fought for yours. I'll earn this gift you gave me, I'll earn it every day. You're gonna be proud of me Nikita. I promise I'll be good, I'll earn the right to live this life, And thank you every day. I know I shouldn't say this, I really have no right, But I have to tell you, Because you deserve the truth, Nikita; I'm in love with you. © 2013 StephanieC |
