The open casket

The open casket

A Poem by Steph K
"

The beauty of horror

"

My heart is an open casket

Its put up on display

In magazines, in billboards, in the journals of today

Its left in humming trains

And pavements brick by brick

Its laden in the soup that I am about to drink

Beneath quirky, fun and smiling

There is a lurking gray

Its creeping down the pipelines

To the core of sorrows grave

Asking, pleading, screaming

to be saved.

Its red, its core its hardened

By layers of fresh powdered blush

Slab by slab painted

Mush, mush, mush!

Wading in deep waters

The core is drowning in

Swallowed bit by bit

Whole by whole

Spat

Like little cherry pits.

Seed of evil

Essence of pure

It has it all engulfed

Be little, note tonight

Hearts almost rotten.

Display has been forgotten.

This read like a vintage reel or something. In that respect, it's very well done. I do get confused with what you mean by some imagery, though.

Its laden in the soup that I am about to drink

I unintentionally laughed at that line. I didn't get how it related to horror, maybe change the word soup? The poem also reminded me of Skinny Love by Birdy in it's structure, which I like a lot. The rhyming actually works here, yes it's a bit too neat when dealing with a subject like horror, even if it is the beauty of it, but it helps to give it the old reel effect, like this is a memory of the speaker's.

Repetition works well here. Engaging message and imagery. Well done!

A wonderful display of emotion and literary flare.
Beautifully written by a writer who never disappoints.

Nice write.
Emotion carried through each line swift and sharp. Ensuring the feeling behind the words would flow into the reader.
hmm, did you mean cherry pits though in the 5th "stanza"?

Overall, I enjoyed this short yet very thought provoking piece.
