The legend of the mooncake monster

The legend of the mooncake monster

A Poem by Steph K
"

Some fables never loose its shine

"

The moon draws near

Her shine and luster

Beauty within that could not muster.

She tells a tale

Of olden song

As short turns long.

Fable? Maybe an antalogy

A prose, a verse of history

Hear her out: It is the tale of eastern wonder

A splendor in sight!

Jealous skies the stars do wander

A monster creeping through the night

Unleashing anger. Right, I now remember.

She said “ Blunder!”

I did not fully understand

But she did comprehend

The story of a past, a future

Withheld.

And so the creature as it was

Remained a mystical pause

And moon trapped in within

Unable fable, untold

A story never sold.

Believe me when I say

The creature remained sane

It ate, and filled immensely

What moon thought was empty

Was filled with sweet, salt.

Oh! Plenty

A caramel-colored paste

To forget it would be a waste

Woven into an intricate box of metal

Of sunk in lotus petals

Lotus root to boot.

Moon, meet eggyolk.

Swoon.

As the mid-autumn festival draws near, mooncakes seem a-plenty. What is a sweet pastry without celebration?

I don't know how in this world you can make something full of everything yet simple, sweet, something that sings to the readers eyes. well done!

I have never had a mooncake and now I am curious. This was very different and excellent.

This is really different. Original content. The way its written is a bit offbeat, at times it doesn't flow as melodically as it could, but it still seems to work. Its short and not over-the-top, not a bad effort at all.

The thing I loved most about this poem was your use of spoken language that allowed me to actually hear a voice telling me this poem with such clarity. A really good job!
