Prologue

A Chapter by S. V. Thompson

“We don’t have much time.”

Draven told me urgently. I ignored him and gave my closest friend, Siobhan, a hug.

I looked into Siobhan’s violet eyes and said, “If anything happens to us, you will come and protect Aislinn, right?”

I cradled my round stomach, suddenly fearful.

Siobhan placed her hand on my precious unborn child and said, “Do not worry my friend. I will be here for all of you.”

I looked at her gratefully as Draven grabbed my arm.

“I am sorry Siobhan, but we must leave. Niall cannot hold the door any longer.” Draven said.

“Goodbye Siobhan!” I exclaimed as I walked through the portal.

“Good luck Darcey.” I thought I heard her whisper.

As soon as my foot hit the mossy ground of Ireland, I felt a gust of wind then the air stilled. I looked all around, then at Draven. I saw the smile in his golden eyes before it reached his mouth.

“We made it!” he said before he swooped down and gave me an earth-shattering kiss.

As he pulled away, I took one final look at his Fae form. He is tall, broad-shouldered, and classically handsome. I have always loved his gold coloring. He has thick wavy golden locks, tinged red. I take in his bronze skin that has always glowed a beautiful gold. I am proud to have him as a mate, but not any mate - a Trumate.

I whisper “I love you.” in the language of the humans.

           ~~~~~
        As Darcey studies me, I study her as well. She is beautiful; she glows like a living flame. She has hair the color of flames, and eyes the color of brilliant emeralds. She is petite, but strong. Her wings are spring green and they curl around her delicately.
I hear her whisper “I love you.” in the language of mortals.
I reply Is breá liom tú.” in Irish.
“We must go and find the Half-Fae.” I say.
~~~~~

“I know.” I reply to Draven.

In my head I’m not quite ready to give up my Fae powers. I remember meeting the half-fae/half-witch. She looked young, around 25 in human years, but I know she is around 217 years old. Her name is Lilyana that is all we know.

~~~~~
We began our journey north; Lilyana lived in the center of the forest. We wouldn’t have to worry about humans; they didn’t venture this far out into The Magik Forest. Draven scouted ahead anyway, he’s so protective I thought with a smile.
“What are you smiling about, mo chroí?” Draven asks.
“You, my heart, being so protective.” I reply, repeating his favorite nickname for me in English.
His hands reach up to cup my face, “You are my life.” he says simply.
He grabs my hand and pulls me forward into a clearing. In the center of the clearing is a stone cottage with smoke coming out of the chimney.
The door suddenly opens and a waif of a girl looks at us then says, “She said you’d come.”
Draven and I share a glance.
Then we hear, “Let them in Gabrielle.”
Again we share a glance, I take a step forward and Draven follows.
~~~~~

When I enter the cottage, I immediately feel the warmth of the fire. The room is simple yet comfortable. I see a couch and chairs in front of a roaring fireplace, a few tables scattered across the room, a table in front of the couch, lamps on the tables, and a large black cat. In one of the chairs sits Lilyana. I turn to look at her. She looks like and angel, she has long blonde straight hair. She has an hourglass figure, and crystalline blue eyes. She also has a cherub face and pouty lips. Her daughter is a mirror image " except she has honey-colored eyes.

“Don’t mind Simi.” Lilyana says in a deep sultry voice.

I look a question at her.

“The cat.”  She responds.

“I also know why you are here, but there might be a glitch in your plan.” She says.

“What do you mean?”  Draven questions.

“Aislinn might or might not be a Fae, even if you are not.” She tells us.

“But can you change us into humans?” I ask.

“Yes, I can. If that is really what you wish.” She said.

“It is.” Draven says confidently.

“I wish to protect Aislinn from the Trackers, even if I have to become human.”  I state hotly.

How dare she question my motives! Draven stares at me almost as if he could read my mind.

He looks over at Lilyana and again says “We are certain.”

“Then know this; if you become human, you are open to human diseases and death. You will lose your immortality and you will have to talk and dress like a human.” Lilyana states.

“We accept.”  Draven and I say simultaneously.

Draven kisses me one last time as Lilyana says “Then let us begin.”

As I watch her smile, it becomes more sinister looking….
