Part IV, Priests of Reason

IV. Thus Reason birthed an abominable void
And released it upon wretched Men to awe:
And thus Men hungered and knew not but to gnaw.
But the great hunger would have Reason destroyed
Thus creating Priests unto whom sate the hunger
For Reason's way is going in circles.

And Priests came down as witnesses,
Each witness of his own foul domain:
“And this is the thing that you shall do to hollow them:
Give them joy tempered with the material.”
And the Priests spoke the works of Reason,
And Men felt that the works of Reason were good.

Thus gain gripped the Heart of pitiful Men,
And unto these pitiful and zealous Men
The Priests their artifice unleashed.
And it came to pass, as Men clung unto his gain
That some saw the hollow results
And bestowed unto Men the gift of the Spirit.
