Part II, Rule

Part II, Rule

A Chapter by Stefano Segnan

II. And Reason took its solely chance
In these times of mythic dawns -
And created fiction: through wars and finance,
Through languages and its pawns -
And Men sighed his last bitter groan,
For Men from now had to stand alone.

Rising into an ever-new humanity
Claiming ever a new rebirth,
Ever new a mirth - and all but turned to vanity
For Men's Reason gets ever-new pain and dirt:
For the reason why Men resigned
Was Reason's promise of a Heaven's design.

But Men sought it not. Men's lost,
By the many and many a way Reason gave -
And this is the way, the way of human cost.
As all these things did come to pass
Men turned to a myriad of reasoned thoughts,
And at even, Reason still rains upon Earth.
