Insomnia

I switched off the lights and I lay in the dark
My brain is tired and my body is spent
I close my eyes and hope that I would embark
To Dreamland
Where fish can talk and cats can bark

I hate taking coffee and I didn't drink tea
Laying in bed in vain
Waiting for unconsciousness to envelope me
Listening to humming of the ceiling fan
Trying to ignore it as much as I can

I turned and took a look at the clock
Oh gosh, it's almost 2 o'clock
Frantically clearing my mind of thinking
So that sleep would soon be coming
Unexpectedly
*snores*

Phew! Do you suffer from sleeplessness? I know I do.

Only one critical comment. I struggle with your use of tense. It's not continuous throughout the piece. You switched off the light in the past and then your brain is tired in the now. You hop back and forth a couple of times.

Other than that, it's a fantastic poem. I have dealt with those same challenges and so the words connect.
