Chemical Uncertainty of Love

Chemical Uncertainty of Love

A Poem by Stefanee Kaye
"

And the physiological notion of loss.

"
English and Biology
How to write the pathology of an emotion?
Endorphins release in a series of reactions.

A heart beat responding to an electrical stimulus
Crossing the synapse of the reoccuring thought
That this is love.

Adrenaline is pumping,
Palms sweaty, as neurons transmit against hope.
Dopamine, once flooding against the gradient of doubt
Now loses it's strength and certainty falters.
Serotonin diffuses into the membrane
Breaking the containment holding it all in,
While Acetylcholine ruptures the dam
And sodium chloride meets water leaving trails down a cheek.
Norepinephrine struggles to retain it's hold,
And we lose ourselves to chemical induced impulses
that leave us questioning our naivety, again.

The science of love, leaves us shaking though sobs,
Glycogen has broken apart,
And fear our hearts might do the same,
Till nothing is left but the acid in our muscles,
Silently consuming us with fatigue
And a purveying sense of rejection.
