A Poem by Steeven

1

i have lettuce, bland iceberg lettuce,

no one else eats romaine but me,

but i can rupture its mastoid process

and spill my homemade vinagerette

through

and we can pick limp leaves

to coddle peppers

tomato

cheese for you

tofu for me

blush

if oil

falls

over

chin.

photo of girl in field, baseball diamond background,

no one else sees it but me,

especially how she was smiling for me

relaxed in bed

nothing to do with i dentity

although everything

about dizziness in head

making my lips grin as controllable as an

epileptic fit

she sits

in back

flap

of

van

gogh

note-

book.

2

look out

through weary eye-blinds

, if you doubt

for a moment

check for the ocean's movement

and know my heart

      each pulse

is there

for only you.
