Here's Your Dear John

Here's Your Dear John

A Poem by Steelwine

My parents live in a house.

My brother lives in a dorm.

My hamster lives in a cage.

Do you know where I live?

I live in a moment.

I live in that impending moment where

I pass you on the street while you push a stroller

And walk alongside the man whose life

I should be living.

Author's Note

Steelwine
Just a short stanza of free verse based off of an anonymous letter I found. The original letter is very long and my poem adaptation is technically 2 stanzas longer than this, but I think this stanza alone captures the subject well enough.

That man has your moment, and it would only take a moment to steal it.
