Breaking Star

Warm; there’s something warm

Falling down my face

Multiple things

Jumping from my chin

Landing on my pale legs

As I stare into the small light

Wishing and praying for

What I just saw wasn’t true

The man of my dreams;

With someone new

Smiling that smile I love;

I walked to my bed

Stared at the ceiling and eventually;

Fell into a deep sleep

“Mommy! Mommy!”

I walked over

“Yes?”

“Why is that huge star less bright?”

I glanced up and noticed the darker star

I turned back to my son

“The star is heartbroken”

I stare back up at the star

“The star was once a person;

Each night one of their memories plays”

I felt a tiny hand touching my hand

I turned to my son and witnessed him crying

“Sweetie.. Why are you crying?”

He glanced at me

“It isn’t fair.. They’re dead for a reason;

They lived their life.. Why can’t they be free?

Why do they have to suffer anymore?”

“She is a goner”

The angels all turned towards the huge star

“It’s horrible isn’t it? She had so much to live for.”

They all started nodding slowly

“Some people just get born at the wrong times;

She was one of those people”

All the angels turned around to stare at God

“She’s breaking like a broken heart;

Soon she’ll fade from the sky.

Just like she faded from the world.

Once the memories reaches the person’s death

The star will fade away.”
