All the Things I'll Never Hear

All the Things I'll Never Hear

A Poem by Here's What I Say
"

...Aptly named.

"

“I love the way she looks in the morning
When her naturally curly hair
Fans out on the pillow

“I love how she drives all over the neighborhood
Even when she’s about to turn onto her street
Because her favorite song just came on

“God damn, she’s so romantic.

“Her skin glows when she gets out of the shower
Her hair is tame when it’s wet
I want what’s under that towel

“When we’re in bed
All I want is her
To scream my name

“I want her to moan again
Arch up to me
Oh God, baby, I’ll never get enough of you

“I know she loves the ocean
I know she wants to lie on the grassy hills of Palos Verdes
I want to be one with her earth

“Money, education, kids, bills
Temper tantrums, angry silences
I want it all.

“I wanna run my finger up her spine
Watch her curl backwards
God damn, baby

“Wear that flowing white skirt you love baby
And that white peasant blouse, just wear it
Be my princess

“I could never cheat on you
I’d do anything for you
But not that.

“I want her to wrap her arms around my waist
She likes the soft, white undershirt I wear
It makes her wanna kiss me

“Let's waltz
Like you do in your daydreams
Thinking of me

“I want your curly hair
I want your big everything
Oooh, you’re ticklish on your neck

“Lie down
Get on me
Do what it takes to make you smile

“Open up to me, Stef
Let me into your fantasies
I can’t run away in there

“Baby, please
I wanna be yours
The way you wanna be mine

“Let’s break the bed
The headboard too
Let’s break everything they think we should have

“You’re short, fat, curly haired
You’re woman and child at once
Special parts of your body are marked

“You’re impatient, immature
Financially behind
Stuck in the past

“There are millions
Of women to choose
And I want you."

I really enjoyed this, it was a fascinating read. For me I liked how all romantic notions are slowly stripped away to reveal what is a pure 'wanting' by the end of the poem. The 'natural curly hair' that 'fans out onto the pillow' dissolves to an object of pure desire ('I want your curly hair'), and then at the end to just a vulgar description ('short fat curly haired'). Importantly the 'love' is still there, the guy seems complex and comes across as maybe arrogant but there is a desperate honesty in his confession, his need for this girl.
An awesome write.

OMG... I absolutely adored this poem. So making it a favorite right this instant.
This poem was so honest, so sweet, so touching, so direct, so unique... just so many things.

Favorite lines:
"Let me into your fantasies
I can't run away in there"

"Let's break the bed
The headboard too
Let's break everything they think we should have"

This was so great. I can't wait to read more of your work.

Very descriptive and romantic! I enjoyed this thoroughly! I love your descriptions that gives an underlining romanticism to the entire piece....

"I love how she drives all over the neighborhood
Even when she's about to turn onto her street
Because her favorite song just came on

"God damn, she's so romantic.

"Her skin glows when she gets out of the shower
Her hair is tame when it's wet
I want what's under that towel"

This piece was great! And I never went on eharmony.com, but they will be receiving an incredible jewel if they get you! Your writing is inspiring!

This poem was very American to me and I liked it. We seek and seek and sometimes overlook what we are looking for. I liked the romance and searching for the ultimate love.

What in god's name makes you think this sucks. Its great. thanks for entering this into my contest. Its really great. this poem is not like the others that mentions what they want. normally everyone just think thinks about sex. this says soo much more. Kodos.

why don't you think you'll hear those? ahh.. don't worry about life! life is going to come at you with everything it has before you know it, and you won't be too happy about it then, because all that stuff has bad sides of its own. Enjoy where you're at right now, and have fun with the good parts right now.

haha.

this was a good poem, thoughtful and deep, and I hope you get what you want some day (soon).

Aw, so romantic. You don't suck, either. I found it very endearing and true. Everyone wants that one person. When I read the lines "I love how she drives all over the neighborhood Even when she's about to turn onto her street Because her favorite song just came on" I nodded in understanding. I also liked the lines "Money, education, kids, bills Temper tantrums, angry silences I want it all." It made me think a while. When thinking of our perfect partner, we usually don't think of the downsides to the relationship. This rings true on so many levels. Especially at the end, when it goes into more detail about the "faults".
This poem was really romantic, but juxtaposed with the title, somewhat sad. You'll hear these words one day. Everyone eventually does.
...Or am I just hopeful?
