Modern-Day Currency

Modern-Day Currency

A Poem by Starling

we have become world-weary and lost

discarded freely as we tally up the cost

the prices and the losses

from workers up to bosses

making sure that what you do

has inherent added value

interest and interests

with all its pressures and stress and excess

cast into a mould that became

a place where we’re never truly whole

yet one all the same

we can't escape our own perceptions

instead give in to the deception

what the world wants us to be

what we believe we see

but for them,

let us slave or toil our bodies not

for our value cannot be sold or bought
