Alive

Alive

A Poem by Starling

You feel the light on your skin

While I invite the darkness in

You let the storm pass overhead

And I fall in with the wind instead

I falter where you thrive

Does that make you more alive?

You fear yet revere the divine

And the passage of time

I fear an existence of being

Without truly seeing

I challenge where you shy from strife

Does that make me more alive?

Do you need to be full of a thing to feel it

Or know all the words in order to speak them?

We love and feel and mend and heal

We hurt and break and destroy and take

Recover and remember, resist and surrender

And when the light fades

And the storm breaks

And healing is feeling what it takes

To free and let go, or to know

That everything is never-ending

Transcending the need to survive

Does that make us more alive?
