attention span

attention span

A Poem by Julia Squires

i walk down the shoals shedding all that i own
as i wonder where i am

recognition escapes me for this place we ended up
i don't think it's what we intended

and i could accuse you of so many things
but i'm tired of trying to forgive them

the thought of you makes my heartbeat bleed
maybe i'll never have all that i need
but you brought me the best and the worst things i've felt
and now i just want to feel something

i didn't expect it to die like this
smothered in silence and quiet
but your feelings faded along with me
as this phantom phased out of your life

distance isn't what disconnects
it's only your attention span

and i love you dear
i loved you near
but i'll never forgive you again
