Drown My Mouth in Doubts and Dreams

Drown My Mouth in Doubts and Dreams

A Poem by Julia Squires

Cats can be cruel,
But I've broke a heart.
I scatter glass casements
To shatter - neglect.

Oceans abandon,
So further I float.
Drifting, deluded;
I show no respect.

At the cost of curing every cold,
I attend my own disease.
I might have mended every mold,
But instead I let them freeze.

Do you miss her at all,
Do you ever at all?

How can I miss her
When she didn't exist?

Only an image, echoing out
Ahead of the noise we know -
A sound so shrill and sheer and
Shallow, when all I wanted then and there
Was to drown my mouth in doubts and dreams.

We never knew
Each other well.
